My heart is with Garrard. As a fellow survivor of psychological, emotional and physical abuse at so-called "save your teen" reform schools, I stand with him against conversion therapy.
Like him, I was imprisoned at a fundamentalist "reform" school. I do not identify as LGTBQIA+, but the my fellow classmates who did suffered from extreme forms of conversion therapy at the hands of religious zealots. It's abusive, horrendous and evil to its core. Too many of my classmates who experienced that abuse are no longer alive today, and conversion therapy is partially to blame for that. It must be stopped.
